Heat can cause stutters, forced shutdowns, and long-term wear on internal components. Internal fans and heatsinks are designed to manage it, but they can only do their job when air can move freely.

Where you put the console matters as much as the console itself. A clean entertainment center can still be a heat trap if the system is boxed into a tight shelf with no path for hot air to escape.

Give every side with a vent breathing room. As a practical rule, leave at least 4 to 6 inches of open space around the console, with extra clearance behind it where hot air often exits. Do not stack games, controllers, headsets, or décor directly against ventilation openings.
